Starting a small business

Talking to a client the other day I was directed to this new website which shared it's purpose with its domain - Starting a small business. That's a good start for any website. Buying keyword rich domain names is a great way to get hooked straight into traffic, provided the sector is not too competitive.

I would have thought something like "starting a small business" would have been highly competitive and so not producing traffic straight off. It wasn't so bad, and with a few search engine tweaks, the site climbed remarkably quickly (partly a lesson in plenty of good content).

Such a topic would bound to have brought immediate interest. As of the last few days since posting this page, David Cameron has made speeches about how much worse the economy is than anybody thought (as if we didn't know this was coming once someone was elected). Starting a small business will inevitably seem like a very good idea, and getting a working website will be crucial in many cases to seeing it work.

Many of these fledgling businesses will be serving their clients by mail, or by download in the case of information and course type operations. This is absolutely vital when starting a small business will mean many of them will start out with more enthusiasm than cash. A website is a very low cost method of achieving all of these aims.

A website when starting a small business is simply so much more than advertising, it is part of the businesses everyday operational infrastructure. For some this will require very complicated web design, embracing databases and custom programming. For most starting a small business it will mean taking whatever can be configured free off the web - and there is plenty of options out there.

No doubt the author of www.startingasmallbusiness.org.uk has served his market in a timely fashion.
